Small businesses is what brings so much charm to where we call home in Victoria, BC. Much of Victoria’s businesses are built around small businesses. From many many locally owned coffee shops on every corner and tucked into every neighbourhood to kids consignment shops and artisan shops. Small business is what makes this city so unique. Victoria government has implemented many initiatives for locals to support businesses around the city. Folks that live here are all about supporting the small in anyway possible.
This month has changed it all. Covid-19 Pandemic aka Coronavirus has put a halt to business in and around Victoria, as well as throughout the world. Cancellations, isolation and closing regulations have put a hold on business for the next few months, but we are left wondering how long it will effect our small business, and family.
We worked with Chelsea Smith from Vintage Chic Photography in her project to show the families behind the small businesses all while keeping her distance. Like Chelsea, a full-time boudoir photographer, owners of small businesses have had to put their professional life on hold through the pandemic. She came to Foxgloves headquarters to help show the story behind the business through photos of our family.
She has found a creative way to fill time and spread joy by bringing the Front Steps Project to Victoria (a photographer in the States had started it and she found it on Facebook and decided to start it in Victoria).
