Going Green – The Irish Way
For this Irish girl, I can’t let the “green” day pass without a nod to my familial heritage. It seems nowadays that everyone gets into the spirit of things on St. Patricks day. Wearing a touch of green, heading down to the pub for a pint of Irish ale, and listening to the “gift of the gab!”
A few facts to get you into the spirit:
Over 40 million north Americans can trace their ancestry back to Ireland.
The first St. Patricks day parade was held in New York City on March 17, 1762
The Shamrock sybolizes the rebirth of spring in Ireland
“Erin Go Bragh” is a phrase heard often on St. Patrick’s Day. It means: I Love Ireland Forever.
Gift of Gab! Irish tradition says that anyone who kisses the “blarney stone,” which is located near Cork, will be blessed with the Irish gift of the gab
