7 Simple Ways to Get Your Home Wedding-Ready
If you’re getting married locally, your house probably features in your festivities in some way. Perhaps the bridal party is dressing at home, you’re hosting a reception in your backyard, or out-of-town family is staying at your house. In each case, you’ll want your home to be clean, decorated and cozy for your wedding. But how can you accomplish that when you have a million other wedding details on your plate (not to mention your budget)? By focusing on easy, low-cost solutions like these.
1. Hire a Cleaning Service
You don’t want to spend the nights before your wedding scrubbing the kitchen floor to impress your soon-to-be in-laws. Skip the elbow grease and use a cleaning service to get your home sparkling clean and ready to impress. According to Housekeeper.com, most cleaning servicescost between $20 and $40 an hour. Unless your home is large, expect to pay around $200 for the service.
2. Declutter
When a wedding is on the schedule, the cameras come out. Count on tons of photos during the days surrounding your wedding, including plenty of candid shots at home. Clutter-free homes provide a much cleaner backdrop for photographs, plus it’s more comfortable for your guests when rooms have open space to mingle and set down drinks.
3. Count Your Guest Beds
Don’t make your in-laws sleep on an air mattress and definitely don’t give up your marital bed and sleep on an air mattress yourself. If you don’t have enough beds for all your guests or your guest beds are sagging and lumpy, give your guest rooms an affordable and comfortable upgrade with a bed-in-a-box. This option is exceptionally easy to maneuver, so you won’t have to worry about wrestling a bulky mattress into place. And because they’re available online, you don’t have to worry about getting to a mattress store – just be sure to order before the last minute: boxed mattresses can take 24-48 hours to expand to full size.
4. Give Your Bathroom a Spa-Like Upgrade
Weddings are a time for pampering and luxury. Give your home bathrooms an upscale, spa-like ambiance with fluffy white towels, essential oils (pine and grapefruit are great choices), and handmade soaps and bath soaks.
5. Swap the Curtains
Is there anything more romantic than sheer white curtains? If you’ll be dressing for the ceremony at home, change the curtains in your dressing room to give your photographer a picture-perfect backdrop for bridal shots. If you’re hosting wedding events at home, sheer curtains in all the living areas is a worthy place to splurge.
6. Hang a Bridal Wreath
Get everyone in wedding-mode the moment they walk in the front door by hanging a bridal wreath on the front door. You can DIY a wreath (these examples from Chic Vintage Brides are perfect inspiration), order a wreath from your florist, or shop for a pre-made wreath online.
7. Keep Decorations Simple
It’s tempting to go all out decorating for your big day, but too much décor overwhelms smaller spaces. Add special touches, but keep it simple. Vases of flowers, white string lights, candles and a curated selection of photographs are plenty if you’re hosting family in your home. If your ceremony or reception will be at home, take it up a notch with suggestions from The Joyful Organizer.
Your wedding day may be the main event, but your home is where your married life begins. Honor your home at this special time by getting it cleaned, decorated and prepared for the big day. Your guests will appreciate it, and you’ll love wowing your family and friends with your beautiful home.
