5 Tips for Creating a Unique Holiday Wreath

It’s officially wreath making season! Here at Foxgloves, we are all about unique creations using items you can find throughout your home and in the outdoors where you live. We love unique holiday decor, that is hand-made and brings the holiday spirit to your home.

IMG 1365 - 5 Tips for Creating a Unique Holiday Wreath

We have come up with useful 5 Tips to help you create a holiday wreath that is truly unique and one-of-a-kind.

  1. Culinary herbs and spices are a wonderful additions to your wreath. Bay leaf, rosemary, oregano, and thyme all work wonderfully to create a herb-themed wreath. You can hang it in your kitchen from a cabinet door to add festivity to your kitchen. You can even use pieces of it in your cooking!
  2. Take a walk in the woods to get inspired. Cedar, pinecones, bark and wild berry branches that are in your neighbourhood woods are all perfect for incorporating into a rustic, earthy wreath.
  3. Dried ingredients can add in beautiful texture. Dried fruit like oranges, cranberries or grapefruit adds in unique texture and pops of colour. Even a sprig of dried lavender can add in the wonderful calming sent.
  4. Simple or extravagant, let your creativity flow. Wreath making is all about having fun, we encourage you to make a day of it. Plan it out with friends or your family members. Prepare a few days before with cutting branches and gathering supplies. Extras to help include a glue gun, wire and clippers. Get creative!
  5. Don’t be shy about making a statement with the finishing touches. Adding in a large bow, tying ribbon in throughout, looping on a bell to jingle – these all finish your wreath with the perfect topping.

For more tips, you can find us featured in a recent blog post with Redfin – find it here.

The Effects of Covid-19 on Small Business

90635109 1092989474403064 688750241305853952 n 1024x682 - The Effects of Covid-19 on Small Business

Small businesses is what brings so much charm to where we call home in Victoria, BC. Much of Victoria’s businesses are built around small businesses. From many many locally owned coffee shops on every corner and tucked into every neighbourhood to kids consignment shops and artisan shops. Small business is what makes this city so unique. Victoria government has implemented many initiatives for locals to support businesses around the city. Folks that live here are all about supporting the small in anyway possible.

This month has changed it all. Covid-19 Pandemic aka Coronavirus has put a halt to business in and around Victoria, as well as throughout the world. Cancellations, isolation and closing regulations have put a hold on business for the next few months, but we are left wondering how long it will effect our small business, and family.

We worked with Chelsea Smith from Vintage Chic Photography in her project to show the families behind the small businesses all while keeping her distance. Like Chelsea, a full-time boudoir photographer, owners of small businesses have had to put their professional life on hold through the pandemic. She came to Foxgloves headquarters to help show the story behind the business through photos of our family.

She has found a creative way to fill time and spread joy by bringing the Front Steps Project to Victoria (a photographer in the States had started it and she found it on Facebook and decided to start it in Victoria).

Sheilah + Jeff a Romantic Wedding Shoot in Victoria BC

Sheilah and Jeff 543 0D9A6956 1024x683 - Sheilah + Jeff a Romantic Wedding Shoot in Victoria BC

We are in love with the elegant and romantic flowers that we did for this couple on their wedding day. We brought organic and earthy tones to fit with the most beautiful backdrops throughout the waterfronts around Victoria, BC. The bride and groom chose soft colour palettes of delicate greens, pinks, blues and peach tones with gold accents emerging organically as the dominant colours throughout. The bride, Sheilah, opted for more simplicity when it came to decor, her dress and the florals. Allowing us to have freedom to create her vision of a vintage style vibe.

With a a love for the 1920s and fashion in that era, the soft hues of the florals went perfectly with Sheilah’s fitted gown with the most beautiful details of beading and embroidery. Just as elegant and easy defines the bride, so does their bridal party who complimented the neutral tones with pale pinks and soft lavenders. We were lucky enough to work with the bride as we planned out prior to the wedding bringing to the table ideas such as the hexagonal arbor when we first met. She trust your judgment and it came out beautifully. She was thrilled to have left the design and planning to us, bring forth ideas of heather to celebrate her Scottish heritage, in which we incorporated into the design. Everything outdoors framed the space bringing her guests to the backdrop where they said ‘I Do’. The floral design from the outdoor ceremony was then brought indoors and used for the reception. What a treat to design with this bride and see the gorgeous photos bring it all together.
