One of our favourite things about wreath making is there’s endless possibilities to your creativity and style. From classic to over the top, beach style and woodsy. You can really put anything onto a wreath to make it your own!

Something about getting out for the evening, maybe with a friend or family member and sparking your creativity. That  makes you forget about all the crazy things going on in the world these days. This is one of our favourite ways to de-stress!

5 Tips for Creating a Unique Holiday Wreath

It’s officially wreath making season! Here at Foxgloves, we are all about unique creations using items you can find throughout your home and in the outdoors where you live. We love unique holiday decor, that is hand-made and brings the holiday spirit to your home.

IMG 1365 - 5 Tips for Creating a Unique Holiday Wreath

We have come up with useful 5 Tips to help you create a holiday wreath that is truly unique and one-of-a-kind.

  1. Culinary herbs and spices are a wonderful additions to your wreath. Bay leaf, rosemary, oregano, and thyme all work wonderfully to create a herb-themed wreath. You can hang it in your kitchen from a cabinet door to add festivity to your kitchen. You can even use pieces of it in your cooking!
  2. Take a walk in the woods to get inspired. Cedar, pinecones, bark and wild berry branches that are in your neighbourhood woods are all perfect for incorporating into a rustic, earthy wreath.
  3. Dried ingredients can add in beautiful texture. Dried fruit like oranges, cranberries or grapefruit adds in unique texture and pops of colour. Even a sprig of dried lavender can add in the wonderful calming sent.
  4. Simple or extravagant, let your creativity flow. Wreath making is all about having fun, we encourage you to make a day of it. Plan it out with friends or your family members. Prepare a few days before with cutting branches and gathering supplies. Extras to help include a glue gun, wire and clippers. Get creative!
  5. Don’t be shy about making a statement with the finishing touches. Adding in a large bow, tying ribbon in throughout, looping on a bell to jingle – these all finish your wreath with the perfect topping.

The Flower Shortage Explained

Screen Shot 2021 09 29 at 11.59.28 AM 288x300 - The Flower Shortage Explained
Field flowers

It has been a challenging time for many industries during the pandemic.  Staffing shortages, disruptions in supply chains, shut downs, reduced productivity along with many other issues. And the floral industry has not been immune to these difficulties.

We find ourselves facing an experience unprecedented in modern times. A world wide flower shortage.

Demand for fresh flowers has grown during the pandemic, with people using them as a means to connect with loved ones, from a distance as well as brighten up their quarantine spaces and lift their own spirits during a troubling time. The skyrocketing demand has put new stresses on an already overtaxed system.

What caused the shortage?

There are many factors that brought this all about. Covid 19 caused many farmer to shut down their farms due to lockdowns and lack of staff to plant and harvest. Pulling many crops or simply just letting them rot in the fields. Now we are playing catch up with new crops and that just simply takes time to accomplish.

Extreme world wide weather patterns have also effected field productivity, with droughts, storms, and nasty weather just slowing down production or causing entire crops to be unusable.

Costs have also risen, in part due to extreme demand and in part because of shortages. Causing a perfect storm in the floral word. Not to mention rising costs for shipping, delivery and lack of drivers.

So have patience and flexibility with your florists in the coming months!  We are doing our very best to create unique and beautiful florals for you with the freshest product we can get our hands on in the prettiest containers we can.
